DITIS: A Distributed Tiered Storage Simulator

This paper presents DITIS, a simulator for distributed and tiered file-based storage systems. In particular, DITIS can model system with up to three levels of tiers additional caches. Each tier cache be configured different number type media devices (e.g., HDD, SSD, NVRAM, DRAM), each their own performance characteristics. The utilizes the provided characteristics in fine-grained cost models (which are distinct device type) order compute duration time I/O request processed on tier. At same time, simulates overall flow requests through layers nodes using numerous pluggable policies that control every aspect execution, ranging from routing data redundancy tiering strategies. For performing simulation, adapts an extended version Actor Model, during which key components exchange asynchronous messages other, much like real multi-threaded system. ability simulate execution workload such accurate realistic way brings multiple benefits its users, since used better understand behavior underlying file as well evaluate setups policies.
